However the amount of cyclists was roughly the same between 2004 and 2007, the percentage of them which were killed by an accident has risen 11 percent over that period. In 2007 alone 646 pedestrians and 136 were killed and several thousands have suffered from injuries which were a result of a traffic accident.
Unsurprisingly the most dangerous city in the country to be either a cyclist or a pedestrian is London, demanding an average of 17 lives per 100,000 people. Growing concerns caused Tory MP Edward Leigh to state that “our poor performance on this field should be fuelling debates about the subject.”

London is a big city and everybody seems to be in a hurry. The capital will always have a higher percentage compared to other cities or villages. When the amount of cars are compared with the space available, this seems the only logical conclusion. There is nothing the government can do about the matter, besides treating the speedy drivers more strict by upgrading the measures which are in use at the moment.
I understand the concerns , but I am afraid there is not much you can do. Relying on the common sense and awareness of people is all you can hope for.
